When tough conversations arise, parent-child communication can allow for a safe space for open dialogue. This provides the time and space for these sensitive topics to be expressed, increasing the understanding of how social support, communication patterns, and parenting styles affect the communication between a parent and a child. Through each of these themes, parent-child communication can be affected based on how ready the individual is to speak on a topic. Individuals may not know how their parent(s) will react to the tough conversation (Keating, Russell, Cornacchione, & Smith, 2013.) This attachment style is hard to change, but is not impossible. As determined before, parents are a child's primary attachment figure which helps children learn how to live and survive within the world. They will also use the skills that parents provide them with when they age and have children of their own (Mónaco, Schoeps, & Montoya-Castilla, 2019). When these adolescents are infants and have an increase in communication and trust, it indicates a secure attachment style. These parents use warmth and communication in creating this attachment style for their adolescents (Mónaco, Schoeps, & Montoya-Castilla, 2019). With the increased warmth and communication, it is used to influence their behaviors once they age. Specifically when they are in their teenage and adult lives (Mónaco, Schoeps, & Montoya-Castilla, 2019). Attachment styles are formed by everyone, and they come from the parent's attentiveness to the social cues of infants and beyond.
