Culture is what defines American Society. It has been heightened every generation that has passes. Today people take part in cultural landscape. Cultural landscape is what people in societies do to the land or change about land. Culture has always been adapting to societies and will continue to expand and elevate.
Heroes can be more than the ones on TV. Heroes can also be soldiers or people in our everyday lives. Heroes are determined by the challenges and their characteristic’s. Some characteristics of heroes are tenacity, courage, and patriotism.
Throughout Unit 1, the stories have had a similar story line, which greed and power trumps doing what is right. Christopher Columbus found new land and stripped from those who rightfully owned it, slave traders ripped Equiano from his home to make money off of him, and Salem citizens accused honorable people of witchcraft for personal gain. The stories of Columbus, Equiano, and John Proctor all relate back to show that being an American can be described by the urge for power and the temptation of greed. When Columbus took off to find a quicker route to Asia, he had no idea what he would eventually find.
American culture has an identification of what could be described as unique and abstract to a degree of not being like any other. Their philosophy of culture would be to learn and interpret to be applicable to your own life. This society has set no restrictions on what the culture could be or have certain traditions that must be followed. America can tolerate and accept many practices to create its own culture that is not conventional.
1) From personal knowledge, I am aware that throughout history culture has changed overtime and is still developing as we speak. Much like the fifth definition in the book, I believe that culture can be described as the tensions or adjustments between shared and unshared groups of people throughout time ( Martin,P. 89). For example, American culture has altered so much over the years, we went from a country that had laws that deliberately caused injustice and discrimination towards a selective groups of people ( slavery , Jim Crow laws, Women’s suffrage, and same- sex marriage) to a more progressive nation that is implementing acceptance that will impact the world for the better in the future to
Culture can be defined as the appreciation of good literature, art, music, and food. To others, culture is defined as knowledge that are passed down from generations to generations from our families. These ideas of the model family come from cultural myths. Cultural myths are capable of influencing our thoughts and actions. Cultural myths can also obstruct our way of thinking.
American culture includes the customs and traditions of the United States. It not just one thing it is such a broad aspect. "Culture encompasses religion, what we wear, what we believe is right or wrong, how we behave with loved ones, and a million other things. " American society back then a long time ago, however, was based off social classes and hierarchical positions.
In America’s cultural ideals, individuals come before anything else; leaving government in second place because “[its] role is to serve the people, as opposed to a system where people are required to serve it” (Patterson, 2015 p.9). For example, in the Declaration of Independence, the unalienable rights are mentioned which are “freedoms that belong to each and every citizen and that cannot lawfully be taken away by government” (Patterson, 2015 p.9). This leads me to America’s key political ideals being liberty, individualism, equality, and self-government. Thomas E. Patterson defines liberty as “the principle that individuals should be free to act and think as they choose” (Patterson, 2015 p.9). For early Americans, political liberty was a natural right that everyone possessed.
Hispanic Culture vs. American Culture Culture, as defined in Jon Shepard’s Sociology textbook is defined as an act of behaving or thinking, beliefs, custom, and arts in a particular society. In todays society there are many different cultures, while some are the same there are many different aspects that make each culture unique and diverse in their own way. Between the American and Hispanic culture there are many differences, but there are also similar traits as well. Whether its food, religion, language, politics, sports, family, holidays, or fashion; Americans share some of the same behaviors as Hispanics.
What defines a people? Some argue that they are defined by their technological achievements, the monuments they built, the languages they created and the philosophies or culture that they contributed to the global platform. Others argue that it is the superficial components such as our appearance and our wealth that defines us. How then do we define the American people? English is a medley of different sounds and etymologies, our monuments draw inspiration from the outside sources such as the Romans and the Egyptians.
My family won the green card lottery two years ago. I was really excited about it because that was my chance to succeed in life. I had not ever traveled to the United States before so I had my own imagination of Texas and Americans, and when I say Americans I mean American citizens; which was based on the stereotypes, movies and what Iranian TV shows had promoted, which you definitely do not want to know. I used to think Texas is like a desert with a bunch of racist cowboys living in it, like the western movies show.
For this reaction paper I will be going over three major cultural concepts, the first is food. For food is one of the most important ingredients to a culture as a whole, America has its apple pie for example. The types of food is what defines our culture For my first cultural concept I have chosen food, in America we enjoy are american food that is normally bad for us. I found out about the Korean food Kimchi, I view this food as nasty.

In an organizational setup, it refers to the common values that the stakeholders of the organization share, and impact their decision-making process. According to Cristina De Rossi, “Culture encompasses religion, food, what we wear, how we wear it, our language, marriage, music, what we believe is right or wrong, how we sit at the table, how we greet visitors, how we behave with loved ones, and a million other things” (De Ross, 2015). Western culture refers to the cultures that are heavily influenced by European cultures, and has its roots from the Greco-Roman cultures as well as Christianity and spread through immigration to other parts of the world. Eastern culture is the culture of the Eastern Asian countries including China, Japan, Philippines, Vietnam, and India (Zimmermann, 2017).
In today 's society of the world, there are many cultures inside of one country. American culture is a great culture that people with different ideas should open their minds too. Many people from the different countries come here and have a different beliefs and ideals. The United States is a multicultural nation, home to many racial, traditional and diverse groups. When people talk about America, there are so many things that people from around the world admire and learn.
Culture is the way of life. Culture is generally the beliefs, behaviors, practices, and artifacts a social group shares with each other through commonality. This is rather interchanged with “society” which is difference because society talks about the people who share a common territory or definable region and culture. Culture will not exists without a society, and neither would society exists without culture. Culture consists of two types: material culture, the tangible objects that may be used as symbols to cultural ideas or belongings to society, and nonmaterial culture, the ideas and attitudes of a society, of which both types are linked to each other.
