How Does Civil Disobedience Impact Society

Civil disobedience positively impact a free Society because civil disobedience is it right exercised by what is defined as a free Society. Civil Disobedience give citizens a peaceful way to demonstrate that they do not agree with a certain law or laws. Citizens should have the right to be able to peacefully go against a law if they feel strongly about what is taking place at the time that encourages the law that the people disagree with. Rosa Parks demonstrated Civil Disobedience when she refused to give up her seat for a white person. At the time word segregation and racism were being fought against, Rosa Parks today chance by not obeying the law which says she had to give up her seat if asked so a white person could sit there. Also demonstrated Civil Disobedience when he went against the Jim Crow laws in the wrongful treatment of African American people. Martin Luther King brought to light the mistreatment and the discrimination African American people had to go through in order just to drink out of a water fountain. Martin Luther King Jr. was even wrongfully arrested for voicing his opinion on what we recognize today as racism and discrimination that is unconstitutional. In King's "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" letter he talks about what is going on that makes him act on his civil disobedience, "Negroes have experienced grossly unjust treatment in the courts. There have been more unsolved bombings of Negro homes and churches in Birmingham than in any other city in the nation. These are the hard, brutal facts of the case. On the basis of these conditions, Negro leaders sought to negotiate with the city fathers. But the latter consistently refused to engage in good faith negotiation." (Letter from a Birmingham Jail). In the letter Martin Luther King goes on to give more examples of the unjust treatment of African American people during that time. Martin Luther King and other civil rights activist did not bring light to the unjustified treatment of African American people at that time there could still be the possibility of African-Americans still being treated unjustly, being harassed, being assaulted, and being killed. At the time there were a lot of people that felt as if Martin Luther King had no right to speak out against the law, but if Martin Luther King had not demonstrated civil disobedience a lot more African American people could have been hurt. It is important as Citizens to bring to light laws that we feel are unfit for all of us to the government. Civil Disobedience allows us to do that and in turn has taken some prejudiced laws away.
