How Does Cole's Personality Change

Cole’s Personality changes drastically throughout the story. He goes from being a juvenile delinquent to being a person who cares about life and knows how to forgive. Three ways that he changed, are his physical ability, his personality, and his self esteem or self confidence. Things around him, like his home life, changed drastically as well. When they changed it influenced the already changing Cole to change even more. Though none of the changes in this story were bad, it doesn't mean that they will always be good either. When his hip and arm broke he was never able to use them to the same extent again. This shows when he is building his shelter the second time he is on the island. He has trouble nailing the wood together with his left arm because he is right handed. Though he can't use his right arm because he broke it while trying to kill the spirit bear. So now he has a bum right arm, Cole’s limbs also start to ache when he sleeps or is staying in one position for a long period of time then moving. When Cole goes to soak in the pond every morning it helps his joints feel less achy and calms him down. So there are more benefits to the cold pond than just clearing the mind. This is why Coles physical ability has changed. Another thing that affected Cole's life and how it changed, is the way society viewed him. In the beginning Cole manipulated them a lot with his “baby face”, he played innocent when he was in front of society. His own parents didn't even trust him, and if the people who are supposed to love you most in life how are you supposed to trust others.
