“Jay Gatsby Character analysis” In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Jay Gatsby is the main character in the novel. Gatsby plays an important role in the story, as his actions to try to restore the past love lead to his demise. Jay Gatsby, otherwise known as James Gatz or “Gatsby”, plays a key role in the story; every action that Gatsby has made over the past 5 years has been in an attempt to rekindle his love with Daisy Buchanan . Gatsby's attempts include Having a huge mansion, moving into West Egg, and building a close bond with Nick. Gatsby uses his prosperous fortune to try and buy Daisy's love back. When Gatsby first met Daisy was the beginning of the love. Fitzgerald wrote “His heart beat faster and faster as Daisy’s white face came up to his own. He knew that when he kissed this girl, and forever wed his unutterable visions to her perishable breath, his mind would never romp again like the mind of God…” (Fitzgerald). This kiss that they shared kindled a love that would stay with Gatsby till the end. This love is why Gatsby throws the extravagant parties because he thinks that if Daisy sees how much money he has she will leave Tom for him. Gatsby knew that Nick was cousins with Daisy and he knew that he could get them close together. As Nick realized he was the only one to ever receive an invitation to Gatsby's parties. This gave Nick a sensation that he was different from everyone else making him more keen to Gatsby's ideas. As Nick and Gatsby continued to get closer together Gatsby asked a favor of him to ask Daisy to tea. A key aspect to this is it relates back to the central theme. Gatsby is willing to spend a lot of money in order to make Daisey fall for him again. Gatsby's central idea is to get Daisy back no matter how much it may end up costing
