In the book Okay for Now by Gary D. Schmidt, Doug has had a really hard life but turned it around a lot. Doug Swieteck has spent his life through anger but has changed it to happy and then into love. At the beginning of the book Doug got a baseball cap signed by Joe Pepitone and his older brother christopher stole it from him. Then his selfish brother Christopher lost it, and then Doug and his family moved to Marysville and that is where Doug’s life changed. While in Marysville's, Doug met a girl named Lil who was mean to him at first but then started to turn around and be nice. When doug went to school in Marysville people made fun of him. But towards the ending of the book Doug is more accepting to other people.
First, there was evidence that Doug is occasionally being angry toward the beginning of the book and shows them through his actions, thoughts, and words. “ People who passed me looked at me like I didn’t belong … Again I hate stupid Marysville.” (32) Doug doesn’t feel like he belongs because of all the people giving him nasty looks and acting like he doesn’t belong. “ ‘I’ hate stupid Marysville and everyone in Marysville (32). Finally “So my father made me move his stuff up with me. Terrific” (12). In conclusion Doug proves that he is angry.
