Thirdly, the effects of drug abuse causes the community and government to create unnecessary costly programs and methods of awareness that attempt to conquer the issue of drug abuse. To oppose the negative effects of drug abuse, communities and governments increase the number of programs and employ a larger workforce (2). Special law enforcements, rehab clinics, and treatment groups are all employed to oppose drug abusers and all these programs cost the taxpayers and community lots of money (1). The government also acts upon these drug abusers by creating new laws to deal and control with them (3). Drug testing is also another popular installment in a community. These drug tests are done in the workplace, at school and even random roadside stops (3). Additionally, special work forces like border control, therapist, and prohibition officers are all employed by communities and taxpayer money to deal with drug abuse (2)(6). The resources deployed on these workforces are avoidable and can be reduced simply if drug abuse did not happen in the first place and it is a reason why many government systems and communities are in debt and do not have access to more important things like hospitals and new technology . Furthermore, there are other costs that the government must account for because drug abuse opens the opportunity for addicts to commit crimes (1), become homeless (4), and leave their child alone (6). Government must use money from taxpayers to employ more police officers, build more jails, build more homeless shelters, and pay child welfare programs (6). All these needless programs and actions have negative effects on a community because it lowers the quality of life of everyone by not spending resources and money on things that matter like health care and spending it on
