Elie lied about his age and occupation because one of the prisoner told him that if they are not accord with the standard that Germans needed they will being sent to the fire and burn alive. The prisoner sacred the Jews and make them to find anyway to survive in order to hide their own age and occupation.
The first horrifying sight Elie saw is during the time he was sent to the barracks. In page 32 lines 18. it says, “ babies! Yes, i did see this, with my own eyes…children thrown into the flames.” when the Jews walked closer and closer, they saw the evil side and inhumanity toward Jews. Elie felt anger rising within himself, he was not believed that exist a place that burn people alive especially for children. they were like a funeral procession and sent themselves to death. …show more content…

On the way toward the flames, he saw the fiery pit burned Jewish children. As the father is pray to God, Elie felt a strong anger was rising up. this is the first time, Elie was doubt about the God’s strength and power. when the suffer came to Elie, the God didn’t show up and protect Elie instead of stop it. after this, Elie destroyed his beliefs totally.
After Elie changed cloth, his thoughts changed. he considered that he no longer had the ability to self-dense and he lost all his pride. once he lost all those things, he was under control by Germans. all his hopes were fade away as well as his self-preservation.
Elie’s first thought is Auschwitz is better than Birkenau. cement buildings with two stories rather than wooden barracks and had little garden almost everywhere. Took a shower is the “compulsory formality” at the entrance to all camps.
