Forrest Gump is one of the greatest movies of all time. Understandably that sounds like a hyperbole, or overly opinionated statement, however I stand firm. Forrest Gump is not just a movie, it’s a history lesson spanning over a period of thirty years. It’s a classic love story about two people who are drawn to each other like magnets, despite the odds. It’s a story that teaches courage, friendship, patriotism, and perseverance. It’s inspirational, motivational, entertaining and comical. Forrest Gump is legitimately one of the greatest movies of all time. This time, I watched it with the eyes of a psychologist. I paid attention to Forrest’s mind. Instead of focusing on the actual events that occurred. I focused on the way he responded to each event and situation. I think this movie was written and directed beautifully, yet dismissed the psychological premise the actual novel had. When watching it as a teen, all I saw was a love story. I saw a “slow” man chasing a promiscuous women around the world, how I viewed it, everything he experienced was because he was trying to get his girl. Then as I got older, I saw it as a story on perseverance and courage. It was an inspiring story of a disabled man, and how he became so successful when the world said he couldn’t. Recently, due to the nature of my job, Forrest Gump is now an interactive world history lesson. I see a man who have been all around the world, experiencing world history, and every political, economical and social aspect of it. Until this assignment, watching Forrest Gump as a history teacher has been the greatest experience with this movie. While watching it for this assignment, I saw Forrest Gump as a story of a bbrilliant mind in it’s simplest form. Forrest is a mental retarded or possibly autistic male, who lives with his momma in Mobile, Alabama. Forrest is often referred to as stupid, and Forrest refers to himself as not being a smart man. Forrest was not smart enough to survive on his brains however he had qualities and capabilities of excelling in everything he began.
