Effects of Mentors on Young Love
Throughout Romeo and Juliet, the Nurse and Friar Laurence play very similar roles, as being mentors for the two “star-crossed” lovers, and always being their plan for advise. These two young lovers are out through a relationship that they both end up destined to take their lives. From raising these children since they were young, they were always beneficial to the characters at that moment, but in the end, they were not really helping at all. The constant feud between the Capulets and the Montagues was always a distraction for the families and their everyday life styles, and the only choice for Romeo and Juliet was to go to these mentor figures for help and endless love. Although, the advice they give throughout the play leaves a negative effect on them, and has the two both ending their lives, because of each other. Although, when Juliet and Romeo get together and the Nurse finds out, she goes along with it and supports the whole idea of them being together, even though their families have a long held hatred towards each other. She serves as a messenger between the two once she finds out what is going on between them by interrupting when Romeo is at Juliet’s balcony, exclaiming his love to Juliet. Once this happens, she goes to Friar Laurence and sees Romeo, and delivers his message to her, exciting each other for what is destined in their future (II.iiiii.1-77). The message that she gives Juliet once she goes to the Friar and meets up with him and Romeo was that they would be getting married, and that she needs to hurry up and go to Friar Laurence’s cell, where her husband to be is waiting for
