In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare we see Several characters change and develop a lot throughout the play however one in particular that had an interesting way of thinking was Gertrude. Throughout the play the motif of appearance vs. reality shows up a lot. I fond gertrude to be a great advocate for this role because of the way her character changes so much within the novel . Gertrude appears to be this clueless unaware person but in reality I beg to differ. I find as though there was no way Gertrude had no idea of Claudius killing her former husband was a plan to take the position of King being able to have extreme power over the kingdom. But yet to the people and to her son she appears as though it all came to a huge shock to her even though she had doubt in the person to begin with . At one point throughout the play, I find as though

After being confronted by Hamlet she didn’t really know what to do because in reality she knew he was right. She says to him, “ O Hamlet speak no more” ( 99). She didn’t want to bare the harsh reality of her actions so she just wanted to avoid it all together. Moving on throughout the book as events unfold Gertrude grew to become more and more aware of the corrupt and terrible things Claudius has done. However it isn’t easy for her to just walk away from him . So may say it’s because she truly loved him, others may say its because she feared him however it can be concluded that she did not leave him.
