Facing your fears no matter what the circumstance is. In the world there are so many people that show courage. People who stand for their country. People who won’t back down for their beliefs. Take firefighters for an example, they go out everyday for other people not knowing what they are getting themselves into. They walk into flame filled houses to save others not knowing if they will ever get out. “The quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear” (Courage). Big things are not the only way to show courage but little things are just as much, for example standing up to a bully. Face your fears, show courage no matter how small. This is what the slaves were looking for. Most didn’t like them, thought they were unclean because of the color of their skin. And those who did not care about their race helped as much as they could. It took huge amounts of strength and courage to pull it off. Harriet Tubman, one of the most courageous person that I have heard about. “She grew up in slavery on a plantation, from which she escaped at twenty-nine years old… she dedicated her life to helping slaves escape to free territories such as Canada” (“Harriet Tubman: Conductor on the Underground Railroad: Historical Context”). Tubman gave many slaves freedoms like she had. She helped save they from a life of torture and heartache if you were ripped from your family. But the runaway slaves had a very hard journey that they had to face. If they had gotten caught they would be taken back to their masters and severely punished to teach a lesson to the others that the same punishment would happen to them if tried escaping. “ Despite the perils of the trip, Tubman manages to sneak many of her friends and relatives out of the country” (“Harriet Tubman: Conductor on the Underground Railroad."
