Johnny is loyal and would sacrifice his reputation to save Ponyboy’s life. Darry, one of Ponyboy’s brothers goes to work everyday to earn money for the people he loves, he does this so that his brothers could all be one family. Toghether they make it through anything. 2.) In page 56 it states “ I’m drowning, I thought, they’ve gone too far …” and “ I killed him,” he said slowly. “I killed that boy.” This shows where Johnny saved Ponyboy from drowning. Johnny is also a hero when he helped get the little kids get out of the church that was on fire. In the text it states “ He looked over his shoulder and saw that the door was blocked by the flames, then pushed open the window and tossed out the nearest kid.”
GRABBER. In S.E Hinton’s novel The Outsiders, Dallas Winston and Johnny Cade are opposites, from their personalities to their way of life. Dally is tough, while Johnny is sensitive, yet the two are very similar. Johnny gives advice to stay the same and not change, while Dally thinks that staying tough is the only way to not get hurt. They die in different ways, but both grew up with abusive or neglectful parents.
Ponyboy lived with his two brothers Darry and Sodapop after his parents were killed in a car accident. Hilton, we go to a time where gangs remain dominant and run the streets. S.E. Hinton tells us about two enemy gangs. The Socs, one of the many provocative gang groups, kids who live lavish lives and get away with the crimes they commit because they look clean cut and look like good innocent kids on the outside.
All of Pony’s greaser gang rescues him and chases the Socs away. Pony is okay, but shaken up. Later in the novel, Pony, Johnny, and Dally go to the Nightly double and meet Cherry Valance and Marcia. It, for the most part, goes well.
This quotation supports my statement because it he said to not worry, because he’ll get them which shows he’s courageous and helps others. Ponyboy is also very strong and not a coward. One of the quotations that can support my statement is when he goes inside the burning church and it was “a red hell”, Ponyboy said, “I should be scared, I thought with an old detached feeling, but I’m not.” (p. 92)

Their actions show that Ponyboy and Johnny are heroes because they ran right into the fire to save the kids with no regard that they could get hurt. One reason that Dally is a hero is because he saved Johnny from the fire while the church was collapsing. Heroism can also be seen from Dally when he gets money, a gun, and a place to stay for Johnny and Ponyboy.
Ch 10 Pg 154 “ Dally didn’t die a hero.” The quote is significant by connecting to an Essential question because he said that Johnny died like a hero in the fire saving the children, and Dally died like a hoodlum robbing a bank.
