Margaret Mitchell had been telling stories even before she could write. When she was young she would write plays and perform them. She also wrote stories and made them into books with cardboard covers. She based the characters off of her friends and family members. As she got older she began writing copybooks, which her mother saved in breadboxes but only a few were left out of the hundreds she made, (“Margaret Mitchell: American Rebel Biography of Margaret Mitchell” 1). Mitchell also wrote in school and excelled in her English classes and was put in advanced placement classes, (Hanson 12). She was also the president of the Washington Literary Society.
