The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County is both a play and a story. There are many differences between the two, but they have many similarities as well. They are both the same and different. The play 's main difference is that it didn 't have the story within the story.
It is incredible the way two pieces of work on the same topic can have such varying effects and purposes. Moises Kaufman’s play, The Laramie Project, is dedicated to delivering a message about social inequality and injustice through its dialogue with witnesses and members of the town during the murder of Matthew Shepard. The article from The New York Times, Gay Man Dies From Attack, Fanning Outrage and Debate, by James Brooke, is specifically dedicated to conveying the news from an unbiased viewpoint. There are definitive differences found in both writing pieces that arguably make the play more effective at serving it’s purpose than the news article. The play, The Laramie Project, was a two year process that started immediately following the death of Matthew Shepard.
Anne Frank Compare and Contrast The Diary of Anne Frank takes place Amsterdam, Netherlands. In the book Anne and her family are Jews in World War II. Because of the oppression of the Jews, Anne and her family are forced to go into hiding. Anne, her mom Edith, her dad Otto, her sister Margot, Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan, Peter Van Daan, and Mr. Dussel.
Storytelling has been a part of people's’ lives since the beginning of time. It started with just verbal communication, then it was translated into written word, and now there hundreds of ways to tell those same stories. Movies and books, for example, are two very different ways to tell stories to an audience. A story can be a book, but not a movie or vice versa. Many books are made into movies, but lose major elements in translation.
There is something refreshing and new in the Hamlet play that is directed by Simon Godwin. In this play the text has not been radically altered but it is clear from the beginning of the play that something is different. The one noticeable new thing in the play directed by Simon Godwin is the opening image of Hamlet getting a degree at the University. Additionally, it is the dilemma that awaits him at home weather to confront the familiar murder, a ghost of his father or to revenge. The production by Simon does more in the definition of the Claudius’s regime who was known to be a military tyrant and from the production it is difficult to know if he was a western puppet or a dangerous despot.
The scene begins to unfolds in their minds. Mr. Wright yanking open the cage door, taking out the bird, and breaking its fragile neck was enough to make Mrs. Wright lash out, and in a heat of passion, kill her husband. As the trifles collect, the women worry that the men will see their findings, and have what they need to prove Mrs. Wright guilty. Though the men believe her to be the murderer, the women are trying their best to hide the evidence that will prove it.
The plays, "Trifles" by Susan Glasspell and "A Doll 's house" by Henrick Ibsen portray the way women were treated throughout the nineteenth century using the literary tool of symbolism. In Susan Glaspell 's "Trifles" she uses the bird cage and the dead bird to present the role and life of women in marriage and society, whereas Henrik Ibsen uses the dollhouse as a way for the reader to recognize the plays main similarities in the treatment of women. Even though the women in these plays share different lifestyles, they all face the same issues in their lives. In "trifles" Mr. And Mrs. Wright 's relationship can be described as abusive and lifeless.
" Adversely, the story doesn't leave much for the reader to decide how to feel, it almost tells one how to feel because the detail is so engaging. That was just the point that Glaspell was trying to make though when she decided to turn the play into a story. It was the story, rather than her play, that drove her message home; the pursuit of justice for women in a man's
There are many interesting similarities and differences between Mrs. Price and Ellie. Mrs. Price and Ellie are a lot alike. They are both rude. Mrs. Price is rude because she puts the stinky, ragged, sweater on Rachel 's desk when it 's not hers. She also forces Rachel to put the sweater on.
They both conclude that someone was rough with the empty birdcage. Immediately afterward, Mrs. Hale comments on the men’s progress to find evidence, saying, “’I wish if they’re going to find any evidence they’d be about it’” (Glaspell 1416). Mrs. Hale’s remark is ironic because her current conversation about the birdcage’s door hinge is indirect evidence, yet she is growing impatient with the men’s attempts to discover any solid evidence. A little later on, Mrs. Hale relates the idea of a bird to Mrs. Wright by saying, “’she was kind of like a bird herself.’”

Because the women felt so inferior to the men, they never spoke up when they found the dead bird which explained that Minnie Foster was the murder of John Wright. Another reason for this action was that Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters felt united as women due to their social status and situation. The characters in Kate Chopin’s stories are either dynamic an or static because each woman has their own personality. One of the woman’s finds her inner self after the tragic accident of her husband, the other woman just relieves the past but does not have any major change in her character. The last woman her personality came out and had to deal with temptation. Kate Chopin’s “Story of an hour” Mrs. Mallard is a dynamic character due to the fact that a transformation to her character had occurred when she found out about her husband’s death. She received the news from her sister, “great care was taken to break to her as gently as possible the news of her husband’s death” (Chopin).
Throughout the their lifespans many authors receive criticism on every work of theirs, whether it be good or bad. Criticism can be received from all sorts of people. Every literary work has the potential to be broken down into multiple schools of thought, but when it is done professionally by a literary critic the criticism is generally specialized into a certain school of philosophy. One particular work by the author/playwright Lillian Hellman is “The Little Foxes”. “The Little Foxes” can be characterized by the feminist school of criticism.
Once the play is ready to be put on, the actors begin to improvise and make up their own murder story as they go. This causes many people to freak out, and causes others to actually investigate the murder to find out what really happened. When people started asking questions instead of assuming things on their own. Eventually, people believed the real murderer was William instead of the mother or a monk.
These ill portrayed characters make their development imprecise or inaccurate for the understanding of the them Glaspell was trying to get across. At the start of the performance by the d’moiselles company, the actress playing Mrs. Peters, Melinda Grahm, comes out and performs a short monologue as the playwright, Glaspell. During the original production of Trifles, Glaspell performed the role of Mrs. Hale. This added scene Greening contributes to the understanding of the play and how Glasspell did intend to be apart but it should be questioned why the role of Mrs. Peters was played by the same actress instead of Mrs. Hale.
