The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, narrates the adventures of a slave, Jim, attempting to gain freedom from slavery. Jim, a black slave wants to live like an ordinary man in society and take responsibility for his family. Jim desires freedom from slavery and wants the responsibilities of a father and husband. Mrs. Watson, Jim 's owner treats Jim as “property”. Even though Jim works hard day after day for the white, Mrs.Watson decides to sell him for profit. Jim overhears Mrs.Watson talking to another slave owner who would take Jim away, separating him from his family. As a result, Jim decides to escape before Mrs.Watson could sell him to another owner. Wanting to take responsibility for his wife and children, Jim escapes.
