How Does Neil Degrasse Tyson Show Honor

According to Google, Honor is “regard with great respect”.To me, honor is respect for oneself and others. By studying scientist Neil Degrasse Tyson, I feel he’s a man of honor. Tyson was born in Manhattan, New York City, NY on October 5, 1958.Tyson got his taste for star gazing when he went to Hayden Planetarium at the Museum of Natural History. He later became the director of the Planetarium, in which he began to renovate it. He has received many awards over his time as a scientist. He has written several books, such as Death by Black Hole and Other Cosmic Quandaries and The Pluto Files: The Rise and Fall of America's Favorite Planet. Tyson served as a presidential advisor to President George W. Bush who in 2001 appointed him to a commission …show more content…

After two years of research, he was awarded a Doctorate of Philosophy in astrophysics in 1991. Later that year Tyson earned the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal. According to Biography.com, Tyson’s mentor was Professor R. Michael Rich. Rich helped him in obtaining funds to support his doctoral research from NASA and the ARCS foundation. With the help of the funding he attended international meetings in Italy, Switzerland, Chile, and South Africa. His research dealt with problems relating to galactic structure and evolution. He became acting director of the Hayden Planetarium in 1995 and the director of said planetarium in 1996. He is a great astrophysicist, or as he likes to call himself, your personal astrophysicist. Tyson treats others with respect even if he doesn’t agree with them. He has respect for himself, and he is honest to everyone.
