In today's society, many of us think that loving someone ends with happiness. Shakespeare shows us that this isn't necessarily true and that there are many things that get in the way of love. He also shows us how powerful jealousy is. He shows us in the play of Othello by using ideas of jealousy changes us and jealousy destroy relationships. He also uses language features of animal imagery and repetition.

Shakespeare shows us throughout the text the idea of how jealousy changes us. He shows us by using repetition. An example of how he uses this is when Iago repeats, " Put money in thy purse" to Roderigo. Because Iago keeps repeating this it makes Roderigo's jealousy worse. We also see how jealousy can lead people to lose their reputation. "Reputation , reputation, reputation! O, I have lost my reputation", Cassio tells Iago. This shows the consequences of Roderigo's jealousy. Roderigo started the fight because he was brainwashed to think that Cassio was with Desdemona. This caused an innocent man to lose his job and his reputation. The last example we see Shakespeare use repetition to show how jealousy changes us is when Othello asks Desdemona for the handkerchief. "The handkerchief", Othello repeats to Desdemona. She asks him to do something for her but all he can think about is that she's been sleeping around with Cassio. Throughout the text, we see how jealousy has changed Othello's mind. This can be seen when Othello talks to Desdemona. At the start of the text, they talked about love. In act 1 scene 3, Desdemona tells Brabantio and the Duke, " That I did love the Moor to live with him." "My life upon her faith", Othello tells Brabantio. Further in the text, it feels that the way he speaks to her is always in anger. " Heaven truly knows that thou art false as hell", Othello says to Desdemona in anger.
