I like to consider myself as a religious individual, and knowing what impact religion had on the development of the new world is exciting stuff. To me religion is important, the fact that we’re now free to decide on our religion is also important. That being said is why I choose to read the article, Religion as a Factor in the Early Development of Ohio by Margaret J. Mitchell. I know that every religion as of now, and before have been trying to expand. They have been doing so by preaching in large amounts of conferences to try to reach the people and convert them. For example, my own religion has a huge conference every year inviting people to come in and reach peace. I imagine that with all the battles going on, after the revolution, many tried to find peace, forming religious groups, preaching sermons to the “lost souls”. …show more content…
I knew that religious groups were formed, but I didn’t know they were formed mainly by those who moved into the new world. Before I encountered this article I simply thought the groups were formed by those who lived in Ohio already, not by settlers. I also believed that religious groups had to have a large mass of people, but these religious groups going to the new world only had from twenty-four to about thirty members, then moving their colony to the new world. The way Mitchell included the example that, majority of east and south of Ohio was were settlers by Presbyterians from Pennsylvania, shows that this religion was strong. Also in the article it included how they wanted Ohio to be “home of peace”, which explains that religion had a huge factor on the development that took
