Act III starts out when Benvolio, Mercutio and Romeo encounter Tybalt in the street. Tybalt starts throwing insults at a calm Romeo, resulting in Mercutio stepping in to fight Tybalt and ultimately dying at the hands of his enemy. Romeo becomes angry and wants revenge, so he kills Tybalt. After this is over the prince finds out and banishes Romeo. Juliet finds out and is devastated sending Nurse to fetch Romeo, so they may spend the night together. Nurse finds Romeo in Friar Lawrence's cell and Friar is trying to explain the plan he has come up with to help Romeo. The act ends with Capulet demanding Juliet marries Paris or else be kicked out of the house. This gives us some foreshadowing that she will end up drinking the drug given to her by Friar, “ Take thou this vial, being then in bed, And this distillèd liquor drink thou off, When presently through all thy veins shall run….” even though she is scared. Also when Friar talks about her fake dying that plays into the whole dying for real sometime in the future. The lines help to move the plot forward because we see Friar putting his plan in motion and actually taking the steps to try and solve the problem. everyone thinks juliet is dead for real and we as readers know the plan and that she will awake in two days. In the beginning of the story Juliet didn’t dislike Paris to the point of killing herself to get out of marrying him, “O, bid me leap, rather than marry Paris, From off the battlements of yonder tower;” (IV:i, 85-86). She actually said she would try to like him for her parents but now that she has met and married Romeo, her stance on Paris is different. This gives us some help in understanding just how much Romeo means to her, that she would kill herself to keep from betraying
