Sadness and Joy, two of the emotions that play key roles in the life of our main character, Riley Andersen. In the film Inside Out, the movie was directed by Pete Docter and he co-wrote the film alongside Meg LeFauve and Josh Cooley. Although the film focuses on Riley’s developing emotions as she adjusts to her new life in California, the audience focuses on the development of her actual emotions, Joy and Sadness. Always butting heads, Joy and Sadness were never really on the same page, Joy always leading the emotions to ensure Riley had a happy life, while Sadness would accidentally get in the way and would sometimes be left out. Joy, desperate to get back to headquarters, dragged Sadness through these aisles trying to find a way to get back. Sadness being, her usual self was depressed and had absolutely no hope they would get back in time to stop Riley’s personality islands from collapsing. Fortunately for them, they ran into one of Riley's old imaginary friends, Bing Bong. He was leading them to the “train of thought”(Docter, 2015, Inside Out) so that they could get back to headquarters quickly without having to walk, however he led them through a shortcut that ended up having them all turned into 2-dimensional figures and they barely escaped in their original shapes. After showing them the shortcut and missing the train, almost causing Riley her two most important emotions, Bing Bong began to show them a different route to the train but while the workers were getting rid of forgotten memories, they threw his magical rocket he had created with Riley when she was younger. Once the rocket was thrown into the forgotten pit, Bing Bong broke down into tears, further stalling Joy and Sadness from getting to the train of thought. Bing Bong’s hope the entire time he was guiding Joy and Sadness was so that the two emotions could help Riley remember him. Although Lit and Cin is my favorite class, hard to believe I know, if you end up in a class similar to it, make sure you listen to those deeper meanings that your dad might point out. These lessons and symbols really will play a big part in the way you live your life because of the influence they've had on you since you were younger. If you’re biased though, it’s good to stretch out into different genres to know how to handle situations, you’d be surprised at the amount of people that can keep a conversation going about the right film. Another thing, in most films there's a struggling character finding themselves, growing up that might be an obstacle you come across but try not to look at it that way, the more you find yourself the happier you’ll be. Being yourself is the most important key to being happy in this life, it allows you to surround yourself with people who value the real you, people who allow you to be emotional, and people who make you a better version of
