Imagine that you had to leave your family in the middle of a school day because of a war and end up walking for years struggling for survival--that is exactly what Salva Dut experienced in the novel A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park. A Long Walk To Water is the story of a young boy named Salva. As the Second Sudanese Civil War Starts, Salva is forced to run as the fighting comes to his village. Escaping quickly and leaving his family behind, he joins up with fellow refugees—all headed out of their war-torn homeland to find refuge. This novel clearly shows how Salva, the main character in Linda Sue Park’s A Long Walk to Water is able to withstand and overcome a variety of difficult yet heartbreaking challenges through his journey of hard work, relationships, and perseverance. Salva survives a variety of challenges because of the labor he put in to surving. The first peice of evidence is when He joins another group of Dinka refugees to continue his journey”Then he caught up with the group, determined not to lag behind, not to complain, not to be trouble to anyone.’ (22) , This quote shows that because the group is Dinka they let him in. Another peice of evidence is that Salva stayed by his uncles side“I am sorry salva he said quitly your friend….”(38) . This quote showes that because Marial did not stay close to the group he got eaten by lions. The last peice of evidence is when he became friends with Marial. “Im Marial”,It was good to make a friend”(30) . This quote showes that Marial helped him get comfortoble. In conclusion, it was very clear that relationships with family and tribesmen helped him get through Salva hard
