This detail shows that the characters have to persevere while digging for water every day. Another example is on page 41, where the author writes, "... Salva was able to make his feet move despite the cold terror throughout his whole body. " This shows perseverance because it demonstrates how the character keeps going, even though he has gone through something incredibly scary.
The first example of this is when chou walks home after a long day of hard work, “As they approach their village and then their home, Chou's neck throbs painfully, her lower back burns, and her calves are tight from the long journey. But she does not complain. She knows that the life of a poor villager is always filled with aches and pain from hard labor.” (Pg) Chou is used to a life filled with hard labor and understands that she must not complain in the conditions she and her family are under. This shows persistence because Chou stays strong and doesn't say anything about her pain and she knows if she did, it would be disrespectful and show that she isn't grateful.
It was almost as if they had left their strength with him, to help him on his journey.” Another example is “ So he had to shake the fear of to continue the journey” These examples prove that Salva was determined because he knew that his family would want him to make the trip.
Overcoming obstacles is inherently difficult. For Salva, there are many factors that help him through his circumstances. Salva faced many challenges throughout the novel but Salva did not give up and always tried his best. Sometimes he would stumble and fall but he stood up again and kept trying. Some of us in the US doesn’t even know about what happened in Southern Sudan and the people who had to go through so much difficulties to survive.
Salva’s labor shows he will do anything to survive, and nothing will stop him. Once Salva started walking, another factor of his survival kicked in, He was a very lucky young boy. Salva was very fortunate because he didn’t get shot or attacked by crocodiles. In the text it states “Stunned, Salva realized that being forced under the water had
Along walk to Water is a story based on the challenges of the two main characters, Nya and Salva. Nya an 11 year old girl living in 2008 and Salva an 11 year old boy living in 1985, Both raised in the country sudan. The story follows the two through a war as they face both physical and emotional challenges, though they both face problems not all of them are the same or different. Further into detail on comparing their challenges, we can think about the differences and similarities in their emotional challenges. “Each time, Salva would think of his family and his village, and he was somehow able to keep his wounded feet moving forward, one painful step at a time” (Linda Sue Park p.41) A personal journey is what a character goes through to change or improve themselves. The character Salva from A Long Walk to Water was a young boy that lived in the dinka tribe in Sudan. When he was at school he had heard gunshots and had to leave the country without any knowledge of where his family is.
The author of the story A Long Walk To Water shows many different tones in the book. During the time when Salva and the tribe, he was walking with went through a desert. Those days in the desert were really painful and frustrating. The people barely had anything to eat or drink, so they had to go most of the way fighting their hunger and thrust. Salva didn't have very much water left in his gourd, so he had to take little sips to save some more for the next day.
The book "A Long Walk to Water" talks about how a boy named Salva has to live his life. The part about Salva is real, but the author(Linda Sue Park) decided to spice it up and add a fictional character. The fictional character is named Niya. She has a sister that almost dies in the book. But, as I said she is not real.
Merriam Webster dictionary defines a “hero” as a person admired for achievements and noble qualities. Benny Bernstein considers a “hero” to be a powerful figure who is respected and makes decisions not only for his benefit but also for others. According to all three definitions, Sir Ernest Shackleton, was most definitely a hero. “Although tortured by worry, he remained outwardly unperturbed.”
Another reason perseverance is an important theme in A Long Walk to Water is because Salva had to cross the Aboko desert for 3 days. Also, “Salva’s shoes stood no chance against the hot stony desert ground. page 52 ,” which means that Salva's shoes were reduced to shreds and he had to walk on the hot ground for 3 days. Also, because Salva’s shoes broke, he lost a toenail by hitting it on a rock and still had to keep walking. In addition to that pain, Salva had little water and food to keep him going.
Some of those ways include when Salva was about to give up and just took the trip one step at a time. Another way was when he lost his only family member, His uncle. He got shot right in front of his eyes. Instead of giving up, Salva kept going and made it to the refugee camp. This resembles perseverance because in tough times, he kept
When Salva had to lead thousands of boys to Kenya while he was exhausted from swimming in the River Gilo for as long as he can remember. Salva had the perseverance to lead so many boys abruptly before the refugees would have died or hunger or thirst, which many boys did die of hunger or thirst. “I will get us to safely to Kenya, he thought. No matter how hard it is “ (81). This quote shows that salva knew it was going to be a struggle but he still was able to get more than twelve hundred boys safely to Kenya.
By thinking of his family, Salva is able to keep walking even though he’s tired, thirsty, hungry, and his feet hurt. The second example of Perseverance is when Salva is in the refugee camp. He hates the refugee camp and wants to get out of there. “I only need to get through the rest of this day, he told himself. This day and no other.”
A failing or poorly managed businesses can be held afloat just because the people working for it keep it working.
