I will explain in detail to you about what happens to Ebenezer Scrooge, supernatural experiences, and how his character transforms throughout the play “A Christmas Carol” by Israel Horovitz.
Scrooge is a very rude, lonely, and covetous character, he is also described as a miser. Scrooge is so greedy that he even says that the poor deserve nothing but only to die due to the surplus population. (Page 241, paragraph 59) He is rude to his clerk Bob Cratchit, his nephew, and basically everyone around him. A big thing to know about Scrooge is that he absolutely despises Christmas time and wishes that people who celebrate Christmas should be burned with their own pudding and be buried with a stake of holly through their heart. He is warned by Marley that if he doesn’t change, in his afterlife he will end up just like him. He will be forced to eternally walk around with chains that are forged link by link due to his greed. (Page 246, paragraph 28) But however since Scrooge did not believe in Marley he tells Scrooge that he will be haunted by three spirits to hopefully help him change his ways..
The first spirit that appears to Scrooge is the Ghost of Christmas Past. Christmas Past takes Scrooge on a journey back in time to his days from when he was younger. Past takes Scrooge to his old school where we see he is sitting alone and weeping at his desk. (Page 251, paragraph 16) Then, Past takes him to the warehouse where he was an apprentice for Fezziwig. Scrooge looks out the window to see a young boy, Adam. He asks Adam if that prize turkey was still at the and Adam says yes. Scrooge tells him that he will pay him to buy the turkey and bring it back to him and if he does it fast enough he will get half-a-crown which Adam happily agreed to.
