How Does Steinbeck Use Atmosphere In Of Mice And Men

In the book, Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, two friends (George and Lennie) arrive at a new farm they are going to work at. They are introduced to many other characters in the book when they settle in. There could be multiple descriptions of the atmosphere during this time. However, I believe that the atmosphere of the ranch and bunkhouse is generally welcoming and calm. There are a few things that the characters told George and Lennie that will help them get along with everyone. A reason why I believe that the atmosphere is, for the most part, welcoming and calm is when George and Lennie met Candy, the janitor. On page 20, Candy tells George and Lennie, “Well, he’s a pretty nice fella. Gets pretty mad sometimes, but he’s pretty nice.”
