In a Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams utilizes characterization to focus on the theme of desire. The personality flaws of the three main characters, Stanely, Blanche, and Stella, all reflect how they let their desires drive them to their eventual downfalls. Williams provides the reader with colorful images of each character allowing us insight into how their past has led them to a life of deception, domination, and inability to see reality.
