An African proverb stated that ¨Strangers in a new culture see only what they know .´´ So basically this is stating that until you get to know a person's culture it wouldn't make sense to you . Desiree's Baby by Kate Chopin shows that your culture depends on how you were raised . This story was really based on racism and if you weren't white you were treated differently . ´´That the child is not white ; it means you are not white .´´(Desiree´s Baby slide 25) This shows how skin color was such a big deal to their culture. Also how it will make people look at you differently if you're not their skin color .
