Peter Elbow claims in “Closing My Eyes as I Speak: An Argument for Ignoring Audience”, audience is important but sometimes should be placed on the backburner during the writing process. He says that thinking about the audience while writing can sometimes affect our style of how we write. I agree with Elbow that this is true. I believe that thinking about the audience during the writing process can influence how the finished product will look. I also think that we as the writer have a choice as to who are audience can be.
All writers write for an audience. Too often however, they write for the wrong audience. Most authors compose papers with the intent to amaze their boos or teacher. Others ovoid their main point, so they do not offend their readers. Papers like these are missing one crucial element, simplicity.
Natalie Opoka Kruse HWLC February 9, 2015 Las Casas Paper Imagine a world where everything you read is written in the same manner; same purpose, same sentence structure, same language etc. Readers would become bored because writing would be predictable. This is why writing is unique. All writing has a purpose whether that be to entertain, inform or persuade. Writers use different forms of artistry to convey their message to audiences.
According to The Maker 's Eye by Donald M. Murray, there are seven elements of the writing process that we must surpass to consider ourselves an acceptable writer. Murray states, that when a competent writer review/revises his or her writing, they are typically searching for seven key elements: Subject, Audience, Form, Structure, Development, Dimensions, and Tone. Baron claims that, “...not everyone should write because not everyone has something to say”(Baron 707). Not everyone’s material is worth to reading so why create pieces that will be neglected to readers. If profound literature is created, readers will gain excitement and therefore writers will also gain success. When writing is overdone, the meaning of literature and its logic minimizes. Baron’s purpose is to clear up the issue of why not everyone should write and the public can easily gain an insight into why
We aren’t taught to just begin a task without an exact goal in mind. But this method can sometimes lead to the discovery of an even greater reward. In today’s society, we as writers are trained from an early age to reach a set objective by any means necessary. But when looking back on this concept, aren’t we missing the whole point of completing the assignment in the first place? In this paper, I will adopt this notion of starting a piece of writing without a specific end result in mind, in the hopes of discovering myself as a writer and developing a powerful paper in the process.
1. In “What Writing Is”, King creates a genuine personal connection to the reader by incorporating various details about his life, thus establishing a less formal tone. By discussing his need to go out Christmas shopping, his son's surprise visit form college, and his preferred blue chair for reading, King becomes more relatable to the reader, who likely has had similar experiences in their life and therefore understands King's concerns. This causes the relationship between renowned author and common reader to transform into a simple conversation between two individuals and allows King to help the reader better understand the point of the essay. 2.
She further emphasizes this by stating that writers should simply “get it all out on paper” and just dump their ideas. (1) Through this combination of claims Lamott makes regarding the writing process, she can clearly depict the importance of getting all of your ideas out in the open, as it will increase developmental progress as a writer academically, professionally, and even personally. With the use of logos, Lamott can advise writers to prioritize the process of writing, rather than the result, further resulting in a sense of full individual progression and
This chapter can help young writers in English class with their papers in many different ways. For instance, Trimble gives examples on what a veteran writer does in order to make their writing interesting. He also gives out techniques on how you can get a reader’s attention or how you can fix your writing to make it readable instead of having nonsense. What makes this difficult for me as a writer is that I write what ever comes to my mind and it will not make sense. Another thing that makes it difficult for me as a writer is that I am not good at getting the readers attention and having him hooked on to my work.
The Capture of an Audience through Writing The ability to capture an audience through writing is a major focus for authors. Writers have to consider who their audience may be, ways to appeal to that audience, and also how to persuade the audience into their arguments. These three main ideas apply to authors of all types of styles of writing. However, this essay centers around the ways that Johnathan A. Foley captures and convinces his audience in his journal article entitled, “Solutions for a cultivated planet”.
Understanding who the audience is, and their connection to the writer is extremely important to format a well-structured piece of
I am now able to see the areas in which I lack in but I also recognize my strengths as well. To become a precise writer, you have to take the initiatives that will help you do so.
