Introduction
“The nightmare before christmas” is a movie directed by Tim Burton. In this film Burton used cinematic devices effectively such as music lighting and camera angle to powerfully portray Jack Skellington’s Journey. Jack is the pumpkin king of Halloween town. He was sorrowful and bored. He was confused and didn't know what to do. He wasted to find something with purpose.

In the opening scene we are introduced to Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king. He lives in Halloween town with everyone else. HIs expression tells us hes confused. The cinematic devices used were music, lighting and color. A joyful music was playing in the background and Tim used high key lighting.. The colors used in the scene were red, blue, green and white. These colors have connotations with a festive and colorful environment. Burton illustrates Jack and his feelings, He was feeling very happy and shocked. This scene where jack discovers Christmas Town reveals that Jack got an idea from it. Jack’s idea was that he wanted to have his own christmas by being santa himself. The music that jack sang was about how he was confused and started to question everything. HIs gifts were not fun and festive rather it was horrifying. WE see Jack wearing Sandy Clauses outfit. It looks out of place on him because of the colors. It looks out of place on him because the colors used for the outfit were red and white. These colors don't match with Jack’s dark theme. THis outfit shows that Jack does not suit this outfit. Jack’s gifts were significant, the colors used were very dark and the design of it was spooky. It is shown in black, gray and white. The colors and designs do not match with the christmas theme. Jack delivers these horrifying gifts to everyone in CHristmas Town. He scared many children and even had a large snake eat a christmas tree. The kids expected nice, festive, jolly gifts and toys. When jack had left after he gave the gifts news spread all across town that an imposter has been copying Santa. Jack thought he had done a good thing but instead people shot him and his sleigh down. He crashed plummeting down confused on why the people shot him. Jack thought he was ‘successful’ at being Sandy Claus. After Jack’s SLeigh crashed Jack looks very sad and bewildered. His costume was ruined and his sleigh was destroyed. Jack realized that being Sandy Claus wasn't right. He ripped of his costume with a menacing grin.
