Sula The story of Sula by Toni Morrison is about people that lived in a place called the Bottom its mostly black community in Ohio, situated in the hills above the mostly white, wealthier community of Medallion. It takes place 1919 when Shadrack returns from World War I. Where he suffers from shell shock, or what we would now call post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) because of the disturbing things he saw in combat. While dealing with his mental issues he later came up with National Suicide Day that was celebrated on January 3rd.
