When Dante and Virgil go to the last circle which is the ninth circle of hell they see sinners in ice some are more deeper than others Then they see a giant shape in the fog and they realize that it is Satan. Half of his body is under the ice and he has bat like wings. Lucifer had one head but three faces the face in the middle was red the face on the right was yellow and the face on the left was black “when i beheld three faces on his head! The one in font and that vermilion was two were the others that were joined with this above the middle part of either shoulder and they were joined together at the crest and the right hand one seemed twixt white and yellow”(Dante line 38-42)
Lucifer is placed in the ice with his torso over it. Something that might surprise the reader is how Lucifer is placed and how he will always be like that no matter what because when he would flap his bat wings it will just create a cold wind and it will just have ice be there and never melt. “As seemed him good i clasped him round the neck and he the vantage seized of time and place and when the wings were opened right apart” (Dante line 70-72) This differs from the stereotypical depiction of Satan in hell. But when Virgil and Dante see Satan they see that he is chewing on three of the worst sinners to be known one was Judas who betrayed the son of god and the other two were Cassius and Brutus they both betrayed god too “That soul up there which has the greatest pain the master said is Judas Iscariot with head inside he piles his legs without of the two others who head downward are the one who hang from the black jowl is Brutus see how the he writhes himself and speaks no word and the other who so stalwart seems is Cassius” (Dante line-62-65) they are the three worst sinners and he is chewing on
