How Expensive or Cheap is Movie Making Today? The movie making equipment has transformed from analog systems to digital with the development of digital technology over the last five decades. The movement from analog technology to digital technology has dramatically standardized various equipment as well as improved the output quality and also reduced the cost of the equipment and the entire film making process.
Movie making technology has moved from the realm of specialists and has moved into the hands of common people. This availability of technology to masses today has allowed expression of creativity and has resulted in production of extensive range of movies and videos (S. Mark Young, February 2008). With the advent of digital technology, the production costs have substantially reduced but the post-production processes continue to evolve and have become more complex. What this eventually means is that the production processes have become less costly and the entire movie making process has become more sophisticated and complex too. The technology being available to more people today, there is more competition in trying to garner the attention of the audience and this has become a global phenomenon today. The improvement in digital technology and almost complete digitization of the film making craft has led to substantial reduction in costs as well as time frames in which a movie is made.
