The Code of Hammurabi is a well preserved Babylonian law code of ancient Mesopotamia, during 1754 BC. It is one of the oldest writings of significant length in the world. The words are written in wedge-shaped cuneiform letters that are carved into the stone. Was Hammurabi code just? Was the laws he had made and instructed fair for the people? Was the punishment fair or unfair? Hammurabi’s code was not just. In law 148 it states if a man’s wife has a diseased seized to her he shall marry a second wife. He shall not divorce the wife with the disease. She has to dwell in the house they built together as long as she lives. In law 168, if a man wants to disinherbit his son and his son has made a grave misdemeanor he may disinherbit the son. If the son hasn’t made a grave misdemeanor the father shall not disinherbit the son. If a son has landed his hands on his father the sons hands shall be cut off. These laws aren’t fair for the son or wife. No women should be able to be bossed around and be someone seconds. Everyone should have their say in anything that revolves around them. Law 48 saying if a man has borrowed money to plant his fields and they have a storm and the plants wash away before a year that he planted them he doesn’t have to pay the person he borrowed money from. No matter way i think if you borrow money from someone you shall and always pay that person back. Because it gives you a good impression.
