Introduction
Primarily a zoonotic disease of warm blooded animals such as dogs, wild cats, jackals and wolfs. It is caused by a bullet shaped NEUROTROPIC RNA VIRUS belongs to rhabdoviridae type 1.Rabies is the deadliest disease on the earth with a 99.9% fatality rate. The rabies virus attacks the central nervous system causing severely distressing neurological symptoms.
Agent factor
Rhabdovirus type 1(RNA virus)
Structure
Rhabdovirus genome is negative sense (-), non- segmented and single –stranded in nature. That is approximately 180 nm long and 75 nm wide. The genome encodes 5 proteins designated as N, P, M, G and L. All rhabdoviruses have two major structural components: a helical ribonucleoprotein core (RNP) and surrounding envelop, that is made up of glycoproteins and have 10 nm long spikes.
