George W. Bush was the 43rd President of the United States of America, he served during some pivotal years in our country's history, 2001-2009. He is the son of George H.W. Bush who was the 41st President. This is the second time in history this has happened, the first being John Quincy Adams, the sixth president, the son of John Adams, the second president. George W. Bush is a Republican, who had a controversial win of the presidency in 2000. During his presidency, major historical events happened that no one would have imagined. Shortly into his presidency, September 11th, 2001 happened. This changed everything, partisan politics didn't exist, at that point, we were all Americans and we were going to find who was responsible and we went to war. American life was threatened. We went to war with the Al-Qaeda, a terrorist group, led by Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan. The Taliban government in Afghanistan was harboring Al-Qaeda terrorists who despised America. During this time, the department of Homeland Security was created to help protect America from further attacks. Life in America has not been the same since those attacks. This started a war that we are still involved in today, a war that has created more terrorists, but America was in a rock and a hard spot and decisions needed to be made. At the time, most of Americans agreed with war and supported Bush in this decision. In 2003, there were reports of ‘weapons of mass destruction’ in Iraq, who was guilty of harboring Al-Qaeda, this led to the US invading Iraq in 2003. Hussein, the dictator of Iraq was overthrown and he was executed in December 2003. There were never weapons of mass destruction, this later turned out to be false, thought to drive the narrative to continue the war. The hunt for Osama Bin-Laden continued, he was eventually captured in 2011 and killed by US Navy
