To Kill A Mockingbird is a famous novel that is still referred to today. To Kill A Mockingbird is written by Harper Lee and published in 1920. Jem and Scout Finch's relationship with Boo Radley is changed throughout the book. At the beginning of the book, Scout and Jem Finch view Boo Radley as a fictional monster rather than an actual person. “Boo was about six-and-a-half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that’s why his hands were bloodstained–if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the blood off” (Lee 16). Jem started to really understand the unfair life that Boo Radley had. Jem’s arm was dangling crazily in front of him” (Lee 263). Scout realized that she and Jem were not alone and that someone was helping them during the attack. “Hey Boo,” I said (Lee 270). This quote is short but it is meaningful. It is the moment when Scout realizes that Boo Radley saved her and Jem’s lives. I slipped my hand into the crook of his arm (Lee 278). This gesture by Scout shows trust and that the transformation of Jem and Scout’s relationship with Boo Radley is now complete. Scout went from thinking that Boo Radley was a monster and putting on plays on her porch about him to trusting him completely and viewing him as their
