The definition of honor is something that can’t be defined. When people talk about honor you may be able come up with a few things, but the definition of honor changes between people. Over time honor has changed, and throughout the world the definition of honor is skewed. All definitions have some similarities, but none are the same. All through time honor has been used in many ways to describe a man, but what honor means has changed throughout the world and throughout time. In an article written by a journalist for New York The Sun, Shalin Punn about James Bowman and his book Honor: A History, he states about honor in the past “In its most primitive sense, what Mr. Bowman labels "reflexive honor," it was that instinctive desire "not to lose face." If someone hit me, I would hit him back, and in doing so I would have been defending my honor” (Bowman). First this shows honor has changed over time because people define honor in a less primitive way now. As well as this definition has been built on and changed as time went on. In light of honor changing, over the years the definition of honor may have been skewed to fit the time, in modern culture honor can be defined as a man’s integrity. People may say that this still applies today to the modern world because honor could be staying the same while the people are what is changing. Conversely this isn’t true because honor has just changed through time, but it has also changed between cultures. With this in mind honor has never been one definition.
