Wireless technology has come a long way. Technology has benefited the criminal justice system in numerous ways. The use of the Global Positioning System helps dispatchers and officers identify individuals who are in need with faster and more accurate timing. The 911 dispatchers rely on tracking a person’s location by using the GPS system and cell phone towers. GPS can also assist with officer’s responding to a location quicker and faster.
Another wireless technology that has assisted the criminal justice system is the in-car camera systems. This asset has saved officers lives and really shows the true story. This system protects the officers and citizens too. I have seen a lot of video footage from officer’s camera system and it can really help with the criminal justice system. It shows a person’s license plate and any other identifying things on the scene. Using this in our system in the military has really benefited us as a work force. There are fingerprint scanners, magnetic card swipe reader too. The machines have made processing suspects faster by allowing them to keep information on the computer. It saves room in filing cabinets and conserves paper too. Another wireless technology that has helped is the enhanced 911. This system can record, detect and show an individual’s location within seconds of a 911 call. I used this system as a dispatcher in the military and it really made it so much easier to communicate with the victims that were in need. I didn’t have to ask them their location or to repeat anything back to me because I knew the call was being recorded. This technology has really advanced on how we serve and save lives.
