The first of the six shared humanities are relationships and loss. In the novel How I live Now by Meg Rosoff, both of these are very important to the storyline. Daisy, the main character of the story, experiences both of these elements throughout the book, as does her cousins Piper and Edmond. Being in a wartime setting, relationships are one of the few things that people get to maintain. They keep people together and can bring feelings of hope during a time where everything else is lost. . In the short film Worst Film Ever, Frank, the main character, has to embark on a quest to find a cure for his ailing friend Dade. During this time, he encounters many foes and has to make many hard decisions that question his morals. Dade eventually dies from his sickness, and Frank is devastated. Both morals and loss are major characteristics in the film, and help develop the viewer’s thoughts on the characters. When Frank goes to meet with Chinchin, he tells him “I need your help Chinchin… because Dade is dying. I’ll give you all of the sacrifices you need, just save Dade”. Frank, who is now desperate to save Dade, goes to the Dark Lord Chinchin to ask for help. Chinchin doesn’t seem to care, until Frank tells him he will give him sacrifices in return. Here, viewers can see that Frank has made a very big decision to try and save his friend. Frank wants to do whatever he can to help save Dade, but doing so, he has now promised Chinchin many sacrifices. To many, this would seem morally unjust, as he is now sacrificing many others to just save Dade. This decision shows that during desperate times, people make decisions that would normally go against the morals they would typically
