The time I've spent tutoring this class, I've worked one-on-one with my fair share of students; but the student I've worked with the most is a freshman named Marcus. From the first time I met Marcus, he preferred to keep to himself and was having trouble with certain things; such as making corrections to grammar and spelling. Throughout the time I've gotten to know Marcus, he's become more confident in his abilities; as well as becoming friends with his classmates. He has made improvements in his reading aloud abilities by becoming louder, such as when we read “Lord of the Flies” or “The Help.” Marcus enjoys to make the class laugh, as well as talk to his classmates; especially when the topic is about cars. When work is assigned, especially when the assignment is longer than others, he becomes overwhelmed and gets off track by talking to others instead of doing his work. An example of this is when he was assigned to make a newspaper about a book he read, which was “The Help.” While working on the assignment, he felt it was too much work to do at once and he would rather talk to his classmates instead of working on the assignment. To help Marcus with this, I clearly explained each question and helped him find the answers; as well as letting him take small breaks throughout the class period. When Marcus begins to get off task, I've found that if I ask him questions such as, “Are you done with your assignment?,” or “Are you following …show more content…
Hargrove, who I've worked with the most. On my last evaluation, Mrs. Hargrove and I agreed upon my strengths and weaknesses in the classroom; with the weakness being I like to stay in my comfort zone. Since then, I've been attempting to make improvements in my weakness. One way I've been improving my weakness is working with students I'm not used to working with, such as when I helped Evan write a paper for History about World War II; or when I quizzed Jonah on Personal Finance terms for an upcoming test. Mrs. Hargrove and I have a positive work relationship because we have a mutual respect for one another, as well as when we communicate we're open with one another; such as when I ask her a question to make sure I understand her directions. The teaching style Mrs. Hargrove has is when she introduces an assignment, she takes her time explaining the directions to the class; which is similar to my tutoring style. My tutoring style is to clearly go over directions with a student one-on-one, and to help answer any questions they have about the assignment; which Mrs. Hargrove does the same. Mrs. Hargrove would say the best thing I've done this semester while tutoring was being patient with the students. In the classroom, each student learns at a different pace; which is why some students need a better explanation on assignments. An example of this was when the class was writing a paper comparing and contrasting a documentary about Oprah
