Benjamin Franklin was, and still is today, a powerful and inspiring figure. His dedication to his studies has shown the power of always being curious, and without him or his love for the colonies, we may not have the country we know and love today. Benjamin Franklin serves as a role model to many today, and has impacted our lives as a politician, scientist, author, and inventor who was always open to continuous learning while he explored the unknown. One of the most notable things about this Founding Father was that he was rather clever and created many things. Once he became curious with a problem, the inventor would ponder over it and come up with a solution. For instance, in the town Franklin was living in, Philadelphia, the innovator improved living conditions by paving the streets, lighting them, starting a police force and a fire fighting squad, beginning a university, and establishing a hospital (“Benjamin Franklin”, 2018a). He became fascinated in electrical science and built on other scientists’ work (“Benjamin Franklin”, 2018b). Later on he proved that lightning was actually electricity with his famous lightning experiment. In that experiment, Franklin attached a kite string to a key and jar. When he flew it, lightning struck the kite, travelled down the string, and created a spark in the jar, proving that lightning was indeed electricity. Another innovation of his was the Franklin stove, which was an indoor heating device. (Freedman, 2013). This furnace, like many others of its time, stayed in a fireplace, but the grate of it stuck out into the room so the warmth pervaded throughout the room.
