Benjamin Franklin's Life And Accomplishments

Many of you are taught all about the Founding Fathers and how America got it’s Independence. I’m positive you’ve all heard about the famous Founding Father, Benjamin Franklin, and about all his contributions to history. He has contributed to the draft of the Declaration of Independence, but that wasn’t the only important contribution he made. He bought a famous paper, the Pennsylvania Gazette, proved the electrical nature of lighting with a kite, and many other things were done by Benjamin. You were probably not told too much about Franklin’s other accomplishments. In order to understand how important this man was, I’ll be talking about his life, work, and accomplishments. Benjamin was born in Boston, Massachusetts on January 17, 1706 to a soap and candle maker. His father, Josiah Franklin, had seven children with his first spouse, Anne Child, and ten more with his second spouse, Abiah Folger. Ben was the youngest son of Josiah and his 15th child. Ben stopped going to school at age 10 to work full-time in his father’s candle and soap shop. Ben was later apprenticed to his brother James print shop at age 12. James constantly mistreated, beat his younger brother, and wouldn’t let Ben publish any of his writings. At age 16 he used a fake name, Mrs. Silence Dogood,

The importance of Ben Franklin has been told all throughout history, along with the famous $100 bill with his face on it. Drafting the Declaration of Independence, foudning universities and libraries, the post office, shaping policies in the U.S., publishing newspapers, making advances in science, and letting us use bifocals and using lighting for electricity. Even if this man never finished school, he did much reading and experiments that help us out today.
