“Practices such as body piercing, tattooing and scarification, once only associated with more marginal or deviant social groups in the United States, have now become more mainstream” (Bradley University). A trend that has risen in the United States is body piercings and it continues to rise. Along with tattoos body piercing is the leading body modification in the U.S. Not only are body piercings rising and becoming more accepted in the U.S. it has also risen in England. People could choose to get a piercing because it is tradition, whether it with family, for religion, or a team tradition to go do it. Aesthetics is another reason, which is that they like the look or feel when they are being pierced or after they are done. They like the way that the piercings look and the opinion is not based off pop cultures opinion. The irreversible influence of pop culture is another factor that plays a great role in the fad of the time. Whether it be musicians, models, actors, or actresses all of them pronounce the art of piercings by displaying visible body modifications to the world. The popularity of these piercings has risen dramatically among young adults where marketing is targeted. A person could get a piercing as a commemorative modification to mark an occasion in much the same way some people use tattoos. The piercing could be used as a reminder, a memorial for a anything, or simply a mark of contrast which helps to remind the wearer of a certain point in their life or where they were. They could choose to get a piercing because they could be temporary or reversible for somebody looking for a commemorative modification but is not ready to commit to something forever, like a
