I think that Chris had a reason to go to Alaska even if it was only a thing that he wanted to do. The final thing that makes me disagree with Callerman’s argument is that he says that McCandless is crazy and I disagree because he was not crazy at all but I do agree because when he was stuck in the wild he was getting crazy because he was alone and he noticed that he couldn’t leave. In the book “Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer, Chris McCandless had many decisions to leave his old life behind and start over. Chris’ decision to leave was justified for the following reasons. When he suddenly disappeared, it made it easier for him to let go of his past and focus on what he wants to do in the future. McCandless could make all his own decisions, nobody had a chance to tell him that he could not leave and certainly did not allow anyone to find out where he was going. There was no other way this journey could have ended for McCandless except if he just stayed home from the beginning. Chris McCandless abandoned the modern world and chose the wild because he believed that he could improve himself through living in the wild, and found the true happiness of the life.
