Faith creates different opportunities Puritans are human beings who have tremendously strong beliefs about God and the power God persuades. God can pursue many different perspectives on how people view power, for example some may use faith as a guide through life even if it can lead to unexpected consequences, while others may see it as anger and impulse. Anne Bradstreet and Jonathan Edwards use literary elements of tone and strong diction to illustrate how it can contribute to different perspectives of faith. Anne Bradstreet is someone who listens and accepts anything that God wishes upon her; while Edwards, on the other hand, is someone who presents guilt and strong disrespectful diction when trying to show belief in God. Here, she grieves over the burning of her house, as she laments, “I blest his name that gave and took,” (line 14 pg.118) As Bradstreet was heartbroken about all of her belongings being burnt up into ashes; her faith helps her find that there is good in bad outcomes. Although she finds relief by staying truthful to her faith, and finds joy in simplicity; there is a moment of fear. Bradstreet draws attention to “That fearful sound of Fire! Fire!” (line 5, pg. 118). Bradstreet learns that life can throw many curve balls and have unexpected consequences, but rather than fearing God, she asks for forgiveness. Furthermore; in contrast to Bradstreet's faith, Edwards’ wrathful use of diction presents an alarming figure. Edwards differentiates between being dissatisfied with the sermons by saying, “But you must suffer it to all eternity.” (pg. 128).
