Custer There probably aren’t many Americans that wouldn’t recognize the name Custer. Conversely, there are probably very few Americans with a well-formulated opinion of him. There’s a reason for that. Custer was a complicated man and so is the history surrounding his career. Passing judgment on his status as a visionary or ethical leader is nothing to be taken lightly. Custer was a fallible man from the beginning, even going so far as to graduate last in his class from West Point due to the number of demerits he accrued, but he was also a gifted battlefield commander. I submit that George A. Custer was a visionary leader, but not an ethical one. This paper will establish Custer’s unethical nature by speaking to his inability to consider the implications his actions, as well as his deliberate disregard for Community test. Then I’ll prove the modern relevance of these ideas by furnishing a recent example. In his book “the real Custer” James Robbins claims that custer graduated west point and rushed to battle faster than any officer before him and probably since.
