In contemporary culture, famous figures such as politicians and celebrities usually don't deserve emulation. Often, they are corrupt, dishonest or haughty, but they are still worshiped as a hero. The true definition and description of a hero, according to World Book Dictionary, is an individual admired for his/her bravery, great deeds, or noble qualities. A hero is a person respected for his/her contribution to a particular field or cause. Throughout history, many people have exhibited these qualities. One major example is George Washington. George Washington is known as "the father of our country". No other historical figure had a more central role during the American Revolution and the early national period. Even after his death, Washington remained the leading symbol of American nationalism. He is a hero because of his great achievements during his presidency and war despite his struggles. When he was young and working as a surveyor, he documented a large land tract along the western edge of Virginia. As a surveyor, Washington was respected for his contributions to this field. Washington also exhibited heroic traits during the Revolutionary War. Despite having lost more battles than won, General Washington still did not give up and won the Battle at Trenton and the Battle of Yorktown, which won the entire war for the Americans. This characteristic of General Washington is the reason that America is thriving today and because of this, he is admired for his bravery and great deeds. He freed our country with his wise mind and smart strategies.
