Saving people, fighting bad guys, and saving the day are characteristics normally attributed to heroes. However, there are two kinds of heroes, the classical heroes and the modern heroes. Classical heroes are the old ones, the ones that are first seen in the Greek mythology, like Perseus, Theseus, and Odysseus. Modern heroes are seen in Marvel’s films or DC Comics films for example, like superman, ironman, and the Flash. The Flash represents a modern-day hero because of his characteristics and following the hero’s journey.

When he gains his super speed, he does not know how to control it. He receives assistance from three other scientists, Cisco, Dr. Wells, and Caitlin. When he learns how to control his incredible speed, he leaves the safe world, starting to fight criminals and bad meta-humans, people with powers. In addition, he goes through the crisis when the Zoom his greatest enemy, almost kills him in a life or death fight. Luckily with the help of his friends, he manages to survive and get justice. These are just a few of the similarities that that The Flash’s journey has with the Heroes Journey.
When the Modern hero is not fighting crime, or saving people they are more like a normal person, that is what happens with Barry. He has to wake early every day to go to work as forensic scientist, there, he works with people he doesn’t like and that are constantly pissing him off. Sometimes, as everyone, he has family problems that he must deal with and other common issues that everyone has. However, even having normal person problems, he faces it with consciences, strength and perseverance.
Evidently, The Flash is worth of being called a modern-day hero because he has many characteristics that match with this type of hero. Also, he follows the heroes journey, as having assistance and going through the crisis. But what really makes him a hero, is his bravery and will to risk his life in order to save
