Homer is the author who wrote The Iliad and The Odyssey. It was speculated by researchers that Homer lived sometime between 1200 BC and 750 BC. Researchers also believed that Homer was born along the coast of Asia Minor. Homer passed on his stories via oral tradition. Oral Tradition is information or stories passed down through word of mouth without ever writing it down. It is believed that The Iliad and The Odyssey both helped effect the way Greeks viewed themselves and the world. Homer was considered the “Educator of Greece.” He was given this name because of how he influenced the thinking of Greece and the Western World.
