The Life and Works of the Influential Jane Austen
Jane Austen did not always live the easiest life. She put in a lot of hard work to become the writer that she was. Jane Austen did not have much of an education, despite that, she ended up having a successful career and has left behind a great legacy.
Jane Austen was “born in Hampshire, England at the Steventon Rectory” on December 16, 1775 (“Jane Austen Primer”). She came from a big loving family. Her parents were married and had a total of eight children, six sons and two daughters. Jane Austen’s dad was an extremely religious man. He was a preacher in their community for years (“Jane Austen Biography”). Her dad made a great impact and helped many people throughout his time as a preacher. At the age of sixty nine he decided it was time to retire (“The Reverend George and Mrs. Austen: A closer look at Jane Austen’s Parents”). Some of the things the Austen parents did might be considered different from what people would consider todays “normal”. For example “each child was sent to live with a close neighbor woman from three months old until they were two years old” (“Jane Austen: Juvenilia”). Jane and her sister Cassandra and they were only two years apart in age. The two had an exceptionally close relationship with one another because they were so close in age and the only daughters. Jane had a talent and a passion for writing. She began writing at the young age of twelve. At this young age she did not write major books or novels. She started her career by writing small pieces here and there such as poems, short stories, and plays.
